CRIB is the first Credit Information Bureau in the South Asian region, which was established by the Credit Information Bureau of Sri Lanka Act No 18 of 1990 as amended by Act No. 8 of 1995 and 42 of 2008.
CRIB is an independent statutory body and a public – private partnership with the Monetary Board of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka holding the majority of equity. The rest of the shares are divested among other shareholder members of the bureau.

CRIB, the Sri Lanka Credit Bureau is an information service provider, mandated by the law to collect only credit related information from the regulated licensed lending institutions who are also shareholders of the bureau. CRIB compiles such information in a meaningful way which allows credit providers to make informed lending decisions.
Credit bureau, plays a critical role in facilitating to bridge information gap between lenders and borrowers, so that risk management in credit evaluation become more objective and rational.
CRIB’s active role is expected facilitate credit expansion into interiors of local economies, stimulates disciplined credit culture and help to create competitiveness and stability of the financial system.
